New South African Visa Requirements for NZ Passport Holders

Effective 16 January 2017, all New Zealand passport holders require a visa when travelling to South Africa.  Visas (Single & Multi-Entry) must be applied for in person at the South African High Commission in Wellington.

    • The current turnaround time for Visa Applications is between 5 and 7 days and involves:
      • applicants submitting their applications in person
      • meeting the requirements as detailed by the Department of Home Affairs (download requirements) which includes the completion of a visa application form (download form).
    • New Zealanders living anywhere else in the world (including Australia) who do not have permanent residency in that country, have to apply in person at the High Commission in Wellington.
    • New Zealand passport holders do not need to apply for a Transit Visa if transiting through OR Tambo International Airport, Lanseria, Cape Town or King Shaka airports.
    • New Zealand passport holders will require a Transit Visa if transiting through any other South African Port/Border Post.
