The All-Black Experience is a state-of-the-art guided encounter that showcases the All Blacks, and our national teams in black, through exceptional innovation and technology. This full sensory and interactive experience allows New Zealanders and international visitors to celebrate New Zealand’s rugby heritage, achievements, and culture.
After saying goodbye to The All-Blacks Experience, the group will head through the western suburbs of Auckland to the Riverhead Tavern for lunch. The Riverhead is New Zealand’s oldest riverside tavern. With over 150 years of history as a house of refreshment, you will have a chance to visit The Portage Bar which is home to a classic kiwi neighbourhood bar environment. On the walls of the Portage bar, you will find a homage to The Riverheads history on the walls. The Landing specialises in premium pub fare with a sophisticated edge, which perfectly showcases the down-to-earth charm of this rural dining establishment.
After Lunch you will head further west to Muriwai Beach Gannet colony. The Gannets return from Australia each year during the months of July and October where they establish contact with their lifelong mates. Enjoy a short coastline walk to the viewing platforms which provide excellent vantage points of the Gannets.
You will return to your coach and travel back to your Auckland hotel where you will get a short rest before dinner at a local Restaurant this evening.
Day 3 – 14 September 2021
Following breakfast this morning, depart Auckland and travel north stopping first at the Kauri Museum at Matakohe. The award-winning Kauri Museum tells the story of the Kauri tree and the people who developed industries to harvest the rich resources of our ancient Kauri forests.
Experience the Kauri story of the past, understand its present and be part of the Kauri tree’s future.
After leaving the museum the road north takes us through the Waipoua Forest. The Waipoua and the Adjoining Mataraua and Waima, make up the largest remaining tract of native forest in Northland. It is home to the famous Lord of the Forest – Tane Mahuta, a Kauri tree estimated to be between 1500 and 2500 years old.
After visiting Tane Mahuta you will continue east along the Hokianga Harbour through to Paihia in the Bay of Islands, your home for the next three nights. Upon arrival you will check in to the Kingsgate Hotel Autolodge Paihia located in the heart of the township and just a few minutes’ walk to the wharf area. Dinner will be included at the hotel tonight.
