Recently featured on the popular television series “Country Calendar”, the forest is home to the largest Rata tree in the North Island “Ratanui” (Big Rata) which is estimated to be between 500 and 1000 years old. Originally built in 1906, the homestead is a Category One heritage building registered with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust. Superbly maintained, the homestead has retained all the charm of yesteryear and offers its guests a chance to step back in time and experience the olde-worlde ambience of the historic homestead.
