Our goal is to enthuse you about your travels. Our consultants travel to the destinations which you tell us you’d like to visit; between us we have visited 145 countries, flown with 121 airlines and have been aboard 26 cruise lines. We aim to experience those places through your eyes, returning regularly to ensure our knowledge is current and are eager to share our passion with you.

Our travel shows will inform you of the destinations featured in our 2020 Escorted Tour season.

Ian, along with guest speaker Aaron Russ, will take you on an expedition to Spitsbergen In Search of the Polar Bear – exploring deep within the Arctic Circle.  And since we’re in the polar regions, we’ll also provide you with advice on the best ways to visit Antarctica.

Our 2020 Escort Tour season concludes in September with a trip through Timeless Turkey, exclusively for our Solo Travellers Club members.  With the warmth of its people and breath-taking landscape – Turkey is back! We’ll also spend some time delving into the more unconventional destination of the Caucasus, and introduce you to our first 2021 escorted tour of The Silk Road.

2020 Dates

28 January: Discover the Polar regions

Guest speaker and experienced expedition leader, Aaron Russ of Wild Earth Travel, joins our resident polar enthusiast Ian Collier as they introduce you to the Norwegian archipelago of Svalbard and go In Search of the Polar BearThis expedition cruise takes you deep inside the Arctic Circle within 470 nautical miles of the North Pole.  The magnificence of nature, encapsulated by sea ice, huge icebergs and enormous glacier fronts advancing into the sea, is only surpassed by the deafening silence as we go in search of the King of the Arctic, the mighty polar bear.

We then head south to Antarctica.

With the introduction of more purpose-built expedition vessels, exploring these polar regions offers you a new level of comfort and enjoyment.  Discover Travel is one of the few Antarctica specialists, with 3 of our 5 consultants having visited this ‘last great place on Earth’. Hear their first-hand experiences of this fascinating continent. As Ian says, there’s nothing to compare Antarctica to, it’s unique and utterly wonderful. You feel invigorated and humbled at the same time.”

Pete in EphesusRecently returned from his own Turkish Odyssey, and excited to be the escort on our 2020 Timeless Turkey tour, Peter Dunne will talk us through the history and highlights of these fascinating destinations.

With one foot in Asia and the other in Europe, Turkey holds a unique place in history. From Achilles to Alexander the Great, empires have founded and fallen here leaving a complex and fascinating trail through time.  Enjoy visits to the opulent Topkapi Palace Museum, exquisite Blue Mosque, world-renowned Grand Bazaar, and historic Gallipoli sites. Explore ancient Ephesus, Cappadocia’s “fairy chimneys”, Göreme’s clustered rock formations, Pamukkale’s travertine terraces, and so much more. With the warmth of its people and breath-taking landscape – Turkey is back!

Silk Road Odyssey: Our discovery of this vast network of historical significance begins in Kyrgyzstan, exploring rugged alpine and lake scenery before heading to the largely unexplored, and somewhat mysterious, Turkmenistan – a country bound by obscure laws; its capital proudly boasting the highest density of white marbled buildings. Finally, we conclude our journey in Uzbekistan and its impressive jewel-box of Islamic mosques and mausoleums in Bukhara, Samarkand and Khiva – all undoubtedly worthy of their UNESCO World Heritage status.
