Itinerary 

Arrive in Anchorage and make your own way to your hotel. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring this fascinating city. The city offers a unique blend of the modern comforts and conveniences with the rugged natural environment and wildlife. It is possible to see moose strolling around the city, or spot a wolf pack dashing through a park, see black or grizzly bears wandering the outskirts, and take in beautiful rushing mountain streams. It is also a great base for many day explorations, and you could walk on a glacier, view varying wildlife and experience native Alaskan culture all in one day. The city offers museums, a heritage center and galleries that house works by Alaska’s top artists and native craftspeople, giving a fascinating insight into the traditional cultures of this land.

Pick up your car before the scenic drive north to Denali National Park. This afternoon experience a thrilling white water rafting tour. Look out for wildlife and enjoy the views as you raft along the scenic Nenana River.

Travel by bus to Eielson Visitor Centre, in the heart of Denali National Park. Explore the pristine wilderness and keep an eye out for wildlife such as bears, moose and caribou along the way. Denali National Park is a vast six million acres of stunning wilderness deep in the heart of Alaska. It is home to North America’s tallest peak, Mt Denali, which soars to 6,190 metres and is home to iconic wildlife.

Continue north to Chena Hot Springs Resort. Spend a rejuvenating afternoon relaxing in the natural outdoor hot springs, hot tubs or indoor pool; or pamper yourself by adding on a therapeutic massage.Optional visit to Ice Museum is recommended.

Ride along scenic trails and explore the beautiful surrounds of Chena Hot Springs Resort by bike before another relaxing dip in the hot springs.

Follow the Trans-Alaska Pipeline on the drive south to Chitina.

Enjoy the views as you drive to Valdez En route, stop for a short hike to the toe of Worthington Glacier.

Paddle past floating ice, keep watch for wildlife including birds, sea otters and harbour seals and come up to the face of the glacier on a full day kayaking adventure to Shoup Glacier, one of Alaska’s most beautiful tidewater glaciers.

Enjoy great views of the Wrangell Mountains as you head towards Sheep Mountain Lodge. This afternoon get up close to the magnificent Matanuska Glacier on a glacier hike excursion.

More spectacular views await today. The Chugach Mountain Range dominates the landscape on the drive to Seward. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure in Seward, the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park.

Marvel at beautiful alpine and tidewater glaciers, breathtaking fjords and abundant wildlife including whales, sea lions, seals and otters on a cruise into Kenai Fjords National Park.

Enjoy the spectacular landscapes of the Kenai Peninsula on the drive to Homer. The town of Homer is located on the beautiful Kachemuk Bay, about 320 kilometres south of Anchorage. Surrounded by wilderness and ocean, Homer offers many outdoor and nature based activities such as kayaking by a glacier, wildlife spotting and hiking through boreal forests. However, fishing is one of the biggest drawcards for Homer, which is considered the Halibut Fishing Capital of the World. Salmon fishing is also available, and visitors can try out deep sea fishing or river fishing.  Bear viewing is also a popular activity from June to September, with Homer serving as the gateway to Katmai National Park.

Enjoy a day at leisure in Homer. You may wish to add on an optional bear viewing excursion to observe bears in their natural habitat.

Return to Anchorage along the dramatic shoreline of Turnagain Arm, one of the most scenic drives in Alaska. Few roads in the United States can match the diversity of scenic landscapes and unique natural feature.

Return your rental car and make your way to the airport to continue your onward journey.
